German Cucumber Salad

This was the other cucumber salad my Mom made for us. She was from Germany and said she had this as a kid. Crunchy, creamy, and satisfying, this German Cucumber Salad is simple to make and takes only a few ingredients. Serves 4 to 6.

Yields: 4 to 6 servings


  • 2 cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons of white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • Salt
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons of dill, chopped


  1. Peel cucumbers and then slice thinly. You can use a mandolin slicer or just good knife skills.
  2. If desired, lightly salt cucumbers to draw out moisture. If so, drain before mixing.
  3. In a bowl, place sliced cucumber and onion.
  4. Add vinegar and sugar.
  5. Add a pinch of salt, sour cream and dill.
  6. Mix well.
